What it is

If you have a child who loves numbers, learns quickly, or constantly craves new mental challenges, here’s a refreshing alternative to worksheets and lists of operations. Space Math Mission is a web-based videogame that feels exciting and playful, yet naturally strengthens the advanced thinking skills many gifted children possess.

How to play

You are a spaceship pilot. Your objective is to go around space, doing math operations, in order to reach a target number.

You will navigate the space field, collect the math bonuses to alter your score in order to reach the exact target number.

On the top left of the screen, you can see:

  • Your score (in yellow)
  • Your target number (in orange)
  • The current level

In the playing field, there are:

  • Planets with math operations (+2, -1, etc.). When the spaceship hits them, you will alter your current score adding / substracting / multiplying / dividing it to the planet’s number. For example, if your score is 2 and you hit a planet with +2, your score will become 4. You will have to hit further planets and do operations to reach your target. For example, if your target number is 10, now that you have a score of 4 you will have to hit planets to add another 6.
  • Enemies that disrupt your score.

You are not alone in this: you have a customizable alien companion who reacts emotionally to success, mistakes, and challenges.

Why it helps

  • Supports strategic thinking

Kids must think ahead. Each bonus planet can bring them closer (or take them further away) from the target.

  • Encourages flexible problem-solving

Unexpected events (like hitting an enemy) require children to adapt their strategies on the fly.

  • Strengthens mental calculation

The game gently increases complexity. Children must combine operations, anticipate results, and think several steps ahead.
